For your birthday
I have saved a poem.
A piece on
Children of my youth still children.
For your birthday
I will ask the stars
To read and sleep and sing and burn.
For your birthday
I will take all care
to be a father
younger than you,
to be a giver
wiser than you,
to be a feeling
(nothing more)
stronger than you
that you may hold
and one day,
on your birthday,
Like a star, unfold.
