Poem: Winter Arrives in the Midwest

Christmas carols piped into lobbies and bars
As the first snow swirls and falls
Turning the ground the same non-color as the sky.
Cautious drivers on country roads,
Stomping feet entering from outdoors.
People talk about winter projects and basketball
And seem to be interested in everything,
Especially an early spring.
