The function of prayer

The function of prayer
is not to influence God,
but rather to change
the nature of the one who prays.

What the world needs

Don't ask yourself what the world needs.
Ask yourself what makes you come alive
and then go do that.
Because what the world needs
is people who have come alive.

Boredom

Boredom is boredom.
There is nothing to do,
deal with it.

Poem: This is the time to be slow

This is the time to be slow,
Lie low to the wall
Until the bitter weather passes.

Try, as best you can, not to let
The wire brush of doubt
Scrape from your heart
All sense of yourself
And your hesitant light.

If you remain generous,
Time will come good;
And you will find your feet
Again on fresh pastures of promise,
Where the air will be kind
And blushed with beginning.

The plan

They have an expression in prize fighting:
“Everyone has a plan until they’ve been hit.”
Well my friend, you’ve just been hit.
The getting up is up to you.

The fountain of youth

There is a fountain of youth:
it is your mind, your talents,
the creativity you bring to your life
and the lives of the people you love.
When you learn to tap this source,
you will have truly defeated age.
